Those with a sweet tooth can discover regional specialties in the four corners of France, from Alsace to the Var.


How about celebrating October under the sign of gastronomy?

While the first cold weather is felt and autumn vegetables invade the stalls, gastronomic fairs are on the agenda.

And some have something to awaken the senses.

If we are familiar with the Fête des vendanges de Montmartre, which takes place at the beginning of the month (from the 5th to the 9th) in Paris, other events take place in France during all the weekends of October.

Harvest Festival, in Barr (Alsace)

Barr is one of the wine epicenters of Bas-Rhin.

Vineyards a stone's throw from the historic centre, half-timbered houses and plants galore to brighten up the streets of the town... Barr is a small concentrate of Alsatian charm.

The small town of 7,000 inhabitants is especially associated with a few “elixirs of youth”.

It is within its walls that the first Alsace wine fair took place in 1906. It is therefore logical that Barr will celebrate its Harvest Festival at the beginning of October.

On the program: tasting of wines, but also concerts, flea market... or election of ambassadors and ambassadors of the city.

Cucurbit lovers should be delighted.

For its 17th edition, La Courge en fête will welcome more than 120 exhibitors in the streets of Rians, in the hinterland of the Var.

After two years of interruption caused by the Covid, farmers, market gardeners, winegrowers and restaurateurs meet again in the center of the small spiral city.

On the program: tastings, the sale of local products, but also many activities, including creative workshops, competitions and concerts.

October 8 and 9, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Rians is a 50 minute drive from Aix-en-Provence and an hour from the Aix-en-Provence TGV train station.

Belly and Normandy Gastronomy Festival, in Rouen (Normandy)

Every year, Rouen organizes its famous Belly and Normandy Gastronomy Festival in the Vieux-Marché district.

Created in 1935, the Fête du Ventre in Rouen has become an unmissable event for all gourmets in Normandy.

Every year, it is celebrated on the third weekend of October in the Vieux-Marché district.

You will come across local producers in traditional outfits, great restaurateurs from the region, or even farmers who have come to show off their products.

In total, more than 150 external exhibitors, including some from Hauts-de-France and Auvergne, are expected, in addition to merchants from the city.

Many should offer tastings of all kinds: apple juice, cider, confectionery, cheese... As many dishes as the most gourmet (120,000 visitors are already expected) will be happy to taste.

The Frairie of small bellies, in Limoges (Limousin)

The Frairie des petits VENTLES takes place in the neighborhood of the Boucherie.

Each year, the appointment is made on the third Friday of October.

In the Boucherie district, in Limoges, which has remained in its "juice" with several medieval buildings, one of the largest gastronomic fairs in the region takes place.

Canceled two years in a row, the Frairie des petits VENTLES should be in full swing in 2022. According to the Limoges tourist office, more than 30,000 visitors are expected for this new edition, which will take place rue de la Boucherie and place Barreyrrette.

On the menu: Limousin specialties, such as black pudding, potato pâté and Creuse cheese fondue, among others.

In total, around forty exhibitors, including butchers, restaurants and traders from rue de la Boucherie, will be present.

How to access it?

From Limoges-Bénédictins station, which offers direct lines from Paris or Bordeaux, count 15 minutes on foot to reach La Frairie.

Several bus lines serve part of the journey.

The Espelette Chilli Festival, in Espelette (Basque Country)

Between 25,000 and 30,000 people are expected for the Espelette Pepper Festival, the same level as before the Covid crisis.

Espelette pepper, which is part of many of our dishes, will be honored again in October, in the village of the same name.

Like the Frairie des petits VENTLES, in Limoges, the Espelette Pepper Festival should bring together a large crowd, between 25,000 and 30,000 people, according to the organizers.

A figure boosted by the All Saints holidays, but not only.

More than 200 exhibitors, including at least 40 chilli producers, will be present to introduce the spice in all its forms.

For the greediest, other products will cover the stalls, including the famous Basque cheese, Ossau-Iraty.

Several tastings and events will also brighten up the gastronomic fair.

October 29 and 30, 2022.

How to access it?

A bus shuttle, at €2 per trip, will be set up from the town of Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, the Souraïde golf course, the Espelette campsite, the Cambo-les Bains bus station and from the Erreka d'Itxassou farm to reach the town center of Espelette.

The village is located about twenty kilometers from Bayonne, Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
