Exits from the territory, whether voluntary or forced departures of foreigners in an irregular situation, have increased by 20% in the first eight months of 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Interior Ministry.
From January to August 2022, there were 12,708 departures from the territory (compared to 10,574 during the same period of 2021), half of which (7,627) were forced departures.
Most of the latter took place in third countries such as the Maghreb countries, up 46% compared to the same period of 2021.
During the whole of 2021, according to data from Place Beauvau, all "
removals
" of foreigners in an irregular situation increased by 8.2% compared to 2020 (13,403 against 12,384) but remained very far from the pre-Covid level of 2019, with 23,746 evictions.
On September 15, before the prefects, President Emmanuel Macron announced that the new draft law on asylum and immigration prepared by the Minister of the Interior would be presented at the beginning of 2023. Gérald Darmanin had pushed for this text to be examined by Parliament in early October, but had to announce its postponement, at the request of Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne.
