Almost 3000 Kreuthers are called to vote this Sunday (September 25th): they choose their mayor.

Incumbent Josef Bierschneider (CSU) is the only candidate – once again.

Kreuth

– In the most recent Kreuth mayoral election in September 2016, there was a turnout of a meager 32.09 percent.

Josef Bierschneider knows that in view of his solo effort and the fact that there is no other election that day, he cannot expect too many voters this time either.

"Nevertheless, I hope that the turnout will not be below that of 2016, but maybe a little higher," says the 50-year-old.

It is important to him that the citizens trust him with their votes.

It is the fourth time in a row that the other factions have waived an opposing candidate.

As of Thursday, 650 applications for absentee ballots had been received

Currently there are 2993 eligible voters in Kreuth.

By Thursday (September 22), at least 650 applications for postal votes had been received at City Hall.

For comparison: In the 2016 election, a total of 397 Kreuthers voted in this way.

Until the polling stations close on Sunday, postal voters can still submit their documents in the town hall.

The municipality expects the result by 7 p.m. at the latest

There are two polling stations available to those eligible to vote who would like to cast their vote in person: one is at the Tourist-Info Kreuth for polling district 1, and the other is at the Hirschbergler traditional clothing hut on Wallbergstrasse for polling district II Open at 6 p.m., after which the counting of the votes begins.

The municipality expects the result to be available by 7 p.m. at the latest.

In 2016, Bierschneider got more than 90 percent of the votes.

The remaining voters had written different names on their ballots.

The evening of the election in Kreuth should not hold too many surprises for either the citizens or the candidates.

Bierschneider will spend the day with his family - "among other things, we want to visit the Harvest Festival at the Käserei during the day," reveals the incumbent.

In the evening he will be in the town hall to wait for the result of the count.

In 1998, Bierschneider became Bavaria's youngest mayor

Bierschneider has been at the head of the southernmost valley community for 24 years.

When he took office in 1998, he was the youngest mayor in all of Bavaria at the age of 26.

For the next period he has a few projects on the agenda for completion: In addition to the settlement of commercial companies on the property on Wiesseer Straße acquired by the municipality, this is above all the creation of affordable living space.

Here, among other things, some construction projects are on the way, in which the community has secured the right to occupy apartments.

Bierschneider makes no statement on the district administrator's question

When asked whether he might also have ambitions to apply for the vacant office of district administrator in four years, Bierschneider did not want to respond.

"For me, the mayoral election is now in the foreground," he says.
