Turbulent Lebanon: The Lebanese army recently announced that it had arrested a suspect involved in the smuggling of the illegal immigrant ship that sank off the coast of Tartus in Syria, with the death toll reaching at least 94.

The Lebanese army said in a statement published on the official website that the management of the intelligence mechanisms arrested a civilian the day after the disaster on September 20.

The investigation linked the citizen to the management of the network of smuggling illegal immigrants by sea from the coast of Lebanon.

According to the announcement, the suspect confessed to several recent smuggling operations from Lebanon to Italy by sea, which led to the sinking of the ships.

The ship was initially supposed to arrive in Cyprus, and from there the immigrants were supposed to continue on their way to Europe.
