On the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, discussed with his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Hussein the developments on the Arab arena and the common challenges facing the two brotherly and neighboring countries, especially the fight against terrorism.

The two ministers stressed the need for joint cooperation and coordination to confront all challenges, especially those related to combating terrorism, achieving security and stability in both countries, and ensuring respect for their sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. .

The two ministers stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations, as their views were agreed on raising their pace, especially in the economic field, in light of the difficult conditions the two countries are going through.

The meeting was attended by Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Director of the Organizations Department, Rania Al-Hajj Ali, and Ihab Hamed from the Minister's office.

In another context, Minister Miqdad met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Development Program, Achim Steiner, and discussed with him aspects of the program’s work in Syria and ways to enhance its activities, including the implementation of the strategic framework document for the work of the United Nations, especially the country program, in addition to ensuring the implementation of early recovery projects stipulated in Resolution 2642 In the areas of water, electricity, health and education.

Minister Miqdad pointed to the disastrous effects of terrorism and unilateral coercive measures on the daily lives of Syrians.

In turn, Steiner expressed his thanks to Syria for the facilities it provides for the work of the program and its quest to enhance and increase its activities in Syria.

The meeting was attended by Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Director of Organizations Department Rania Al-Hajj Ali, Majd Nyal and Wissam Nahas from the permanent delegation.
