Unterhaching presents a lavishly restored fire engine from the 1960s – the municipality is to finance a pavilion for it.

Unterhaching – The work should start this fall and be completed next year: Unterhaching wants to donate an exhibition pavilion for a historic fire engine to its fire department.

Cost: around 204,000 euros.

The final decision is to be taken at the municipal council meeting on September 28th.

According to the draft resolution of the main and finance committee, the pavilion at the fire station is planned in the direction of Leipziger Strasse.

However: “The project requires the felling of three trees.

Fire brigade Unterhaching: fire engine was bought in 1965

A small-leaved lime is planned as a replacement.

Due to the existing dense stock of trees as well as the operationally required movement areas on the property, further plantings are not possible.

Background: The fire brigade would like to exhibit their fire engine (LF 16), which they bought in 1965 and which they have since extensively restored, in a pavilion with a glass front facing Leipziger Strasse.

Unterhaching Fire Department: Taking historical developments into account

According to the draft resolution, the association wanted to "take account of the historical development of the Unterhaching fire brigade and thus also bring the essential function of the volunteer fire brigade and its roots closer to the citizens of Unterhaching" by erecting the exhibition pavilion.

The construction of the exhibition pavilion would also be a significant upgrade of the location and, according to the association, should “shine as a new landmark for the Unterhaching fire brigade as well as for the residents of Unterhaching”.

Since the location is community property and the fire brigade is a community institution, Mayor Wolfgang Panzer (SPD) offered at the 2021 annual general meeting to have it checked whether it was possible to support the fire brigade financially and with building law.

Fire brigade Unterhaching: Municipality should provide financial support

On June 30, 2022, an inspection with the police, road construction office, district office, municipal administration and fire brigade took place.

An agreement was reached on the location.

The fire brigade association of the volunteer fire brigade, represented by its chairman Christoph Simon, then submitted an application for the construction of an exhibition pavilion on September 6 of this year and asked the municipality for financial and structural support.

Of course, the association wants to carry out some tasks itself in order to reduce costs.
