"A flea market must remain open to all": in Puteaux, the garage sale reserved for residents goes badly

Behind the stands and in the aisles, second-hand dealers rumbled this Sunday against this access restriction decided by the municipality,

“Do you realize: I come to this flea market every year, I live on the edge of Puteaux, on the Suresnes side, and this is the first time that I can't go there.

It hurts my heart.

“Dalila goes around the access points to the back-to-school flea market in Puteaux on the esplanade of the town hall this Sunday, but nothing helps: she cannot enter.

Because this year, the municipality has decided to restrict access only to holders of the Puteaux Pass, reserved for the inhabitants of the city.

After a few moments, Delilah finally finds a breach - because despite the restriction, there is a crowd - and manages to sneak in, neither seen nor known.

But this childminder had to leave her husband outside.

“I like going there, I always find little toys and books for the children that I keep,” she slips.

At the entrance, the agent who controls the passes has only been wiping the plasters since the beginning of the morning.

"I think they relaxed and let the inhabitants of Puteaux enter even if they didn't have the pass," says Olivier, who runs a clothing and toy stand with his wife.

It got hot this morning.

Like many other junk dealers, he regrets his visit: “If we had known, we wouldn't have taken a stand.

It is of the same ilk as the reserved access to the swimming pool.

“And his wife to outbid:” The swimming pool again, we can understand when there are too many people in summer, but a flea market is supposed to be open to all.

Beyond the loss in sales, I find that it is excluding for visitors.

“We have fewer people haggling, I find”

Here and there in the aisles, we hear the exhibitors rumbling.

Like Laurent in front of his multimedia equipment stand: “Incomprehension.

Really.

That's the word.

I like living in Puteaux, I don't want to denigrate this town.

But there, frankly, I don't understand the security argument;

it is shameful.

A flea market must remain open to all.

Her booth neighbor wanted her mom to come in to watch her son while she sells.

Nothing to do.

The mother does not live in Puteaux.

Some, however, find a positive argument in it: "We have fewer people who haggle, I find", notes another flea market.

Last week, the City justified in our columns having taken this measure taking into account the observations of the association of traders who organize the event.

During the last flea market, in May, the association would indeed have observed a lot of people per square meter and had deplored some jostling, a little breakage and thefts.

"As I'm not exhibiting this year, I don't care a bit," reacts a former resident who is used to the event.

It's even better, there are fewer people in the aisles.

It was enough to explain this measure.

This can be understood for a question of fluidity and security, and even health security.
