She is 56 years old.

She is pregnant.

And the little girl she carries is not her daughter.

But her granddaughter.

Utah/USA - Cambria (30) has been infertile since giving birth to her second set of twins over a year ago.

The young woman had to have a hysterectomy (removal of the womb).

But Cambria and her husband Jeff would have liked more children, writes the

New York Post.

But they weren't sure how it could go.

Eventually, Cambria's mother-in-law, Nancy, offered to act as a surrogate mother for the two.

Surrogacy - embryos were already in place

As a surrogate mother, the woman receives a fertilized egg cell on the so-called “transfer day”.

In Nancy's case, she received the fertilized egg from her daughter-in-law.

In the case of surrogacy, it is relevant that the egg cell does not come from the surrogate mother herself, but from a donor.

Two Upper Bavarians who became daddies in the USA thanks to a surrogate mother also know this.

Cambria and Jeff had trouble having children from the start.

Because of their unfulfilled desire to have children, the couple underwent the procedure of artificial insemination, a so-called in-vitro fertilization treatment, for several years.

In Germany, these quite expensive fertility treatments are subsidized and supported by the state.

Cambria's treatment was successful and she gave birth to twins, Vera and Ayva, for the first time three years ago.

And a short time later, the two became parents of twins again - thanks to artificial insemination.

Diseal and Luka, now eleven months old.

But this second birth was traumatic for the woman giving birth.

Cambria had a hysterectomy and has not been able to bear children since.

However, because of the fertilization treatment, the couple had frozen embryos "left over." "They had seven embryos to try artificial insemination," says mother-in-law Nancy.

And they would have decided to fertilize everyone.

Grandma as a surrogate mother - "The most beautiful thing there is."

Now, after having her womb removed, Cambria has been unable to carry her own children to term, Nancy tells the

Daily Mail.

"And a few months later, I felt like I should offer her to do it." So she volunteered to be their surrogate.

Even though Nancy, at 56, was initially unsure whether she would be able to have another child at her age.

But the doctors gave the green light.

Nancy began hormone treatment in January 2022, taking daily hormone injections for 12 weeks with the help of her husband and Jeff's father, Jason, 59, an optometrist.

The embryo transfer was successful.

The baby - it will be a girl - is expected to be born in November.

"I never thought I'd be pregnant at the age of 56," says the mother-mother-in-law-grandmother, according to

the Dailymail

.

Surrogacy, pregnancy and abortion in the US

And even though many women want to have children and cannot, there are many women in the USA who are pregnant and cannot carry the child to term.

The abortion policy in the United States has repeatedly made headlines in recent months.

Nancy Pelosi is definitely not a supporter of the abortion ban.

The Speaker of the House called the decision a "slap in the face to women".

A few days after the verdict, the 82-year-old outlined legislative proposals that the Democrats in the Congress Chamber are considering in response.
