Kenyan police announced today that 11 people were killed by cattle thieves in Turkana county, northern Kenya.
"An ambush carried out by cattle thieves in Turkana province killed eight policemen, two civilians and a local official," the police said on its Twitter account, noting that additional reinforcements had been sent to the area.
The policemen who were killed pursued gunmen who attacked a village, and fled with livestock, as cattle theft and disputes over water sources and grazing lands are common in northern Kenya.
