There were a total of 32 missions in 24 hours.

Markt Schwaben – When they hear that the emergency call has been made, the five Markt Schwabeners at the climbing tower are relieved: the wait in the rain is over, the exercise can finally begin.

The five mimes immediately run to their position: one throws himself between two piles of wood, the other wedges his foot between bars and the next lies down under a huge boulder.

Bernhard Nowotny is curious to see whether the rescue workers will also find Ariana Hofmann, who is apparently unconscious and well hidden in the bushes.

He is the district emergency manager and civil protection officer of the Ebersberger BRK, who observes and assesses the deployment of the rescue services after this apparent explosion of a gas leak.

The event is one of a total of 32 emergency situations for which the rescue workers in the north of the district are guided for exercise purposes: stroke at the wheel, burns on the grill, up to almost drowning in the lake is within the 24-hour disaster control exercise under the direction of Arno Haase and Stefan Kratzlmeier has it all.

82 people took part in the exercise weekend, above all the youth group of the Markt Schwaben Red Cross.

Markt Schwaben: gas explosion at the climbing tower

As soon as the blue light shimmers above the trees, the buried Christian Gutmann starts to scream like he's on a skewer.

Meanwhile, Sonja Kluge limped towards the first responders with a laceration on her head and desperately asked them to finally do something and help her and the other injured instead of just talking into her radio.

The first person to arrive in the ambulance, Alexander Ferres, is not disturbed by Kluge's wailing: he radios that there are five injured, ranging from green (responsive and only slightly injured) to red (unconscious and severe). injured) be all there.

“He does that very well,” Nowotny praises over the radio that babbles in constant use.

After all, nobody would be helped if he responded to the woman instead of giving the control center all the necessary information.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

Hofmann, who was hidden in the bushes, was also found immediately, and Ferres calls the Technical Relief Agency (THW) for help to get the buried Gutmann out from under the stone.

More and more emergency services such as emergency doctors, paramedics, police officers and THW volunteers come to the muddy practice area, more than a dozen people scurry back and forth: "It may seem chaotic to outsiders, but the trained eye recognizes what is happening," comments Nowotny.

While two police officers prevented the woman, who had suffered a head injury, from constantly running between the emergency services who were treating Hofmann and splinting Stefan Dickl's leg, the THW had already lifted the rock with wooden wedges and iron bars and freed Gutmann.

His cries of pain have now stopped, he now has a respirator on his mouth.

High school converted into a hospital

The actors, themselves members of the emergency services, know what is important: as much as possible running in between and loudly and urgently increasing the pressure on the emergency services.

Keeping calm in an emergency needs practice.

In the meantime, the management of the operation has passed to Martha Stark from the BRK Ebersberg, who asks the exercise control center which hospitals have space in the area.

But everything is full right now, so the answer from the head office.

"Normally you could easily accommodate five injured people, but we just wanted to try out all the scenarios," explains Nowotny.

That's why volunteer helpers are building a makeshift hospital in the parking lot of the Markt Schwabener sports grounds.

Within about 15 minutes there is a heated tent including electricity, stretchers and all the necessary medical equipment, to which the five actors are transported and cared for from there.

About an hour later there is finally space in the Franz-Marc-Gymnasium, according to the radio.

There, civil protection simulates the hospital, including the emergency room, doctors and all the necessary forms, so that everything from the emergency call to the handover in the hospital has been tried out - in the hope that as little as possible will actually be needed.
