A "
moderate
" earthquake of magnitude 4.2 whose epicenter was located near Mont Blanc, occurred on Saturday morning, said the National Seismic Monitoring Network (Renass).
According to the first elements and GPS data from Renass, based in Strasbourg, the earthquake occurred at 8:18 a.m. about 4.5 km from Chamonix, not far from the Swiss and Italian borders.
It was felt by residents of the region who reported it on social networks but no serious damage was reported immediately.
The Seismological Network of the Alps (Sismalp) for its part reports an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 at a depth of 5 km.
