Schurli is now part of the Wiesn inventory, like the beer mug.
He has been going to the Oktoberfest every day for 39 years – for him it is his annual vacation.
Munich – 1983 was a fateful year for Georg Mayerhofer from Austria.
Because that was when he visited the Oktoberfest in Munich for the first time.
It was love at first visit, since then he has been coming to the Wiesn every year.
And he spends 14 hours a day on the festival grounds - he's been doing it at every Oktoberfest for the past 39 years.
Schurli, the biggest Oktoberfest fan: at the Oktoberfest year after year for 39 years
On his first visit, the 58-year-old had goosebumps, he says.
He doesn't know where paradise is, but he's not far away from it now, he tells
Sat.1
about his thoughts at the time.
He has been going to the Oktoberfest since 1983, every day, year after year.
It starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 a.m. – after 14 hours at the Munich Oktoberfest.
He drinks three to four liters, then Schurli switches to white wine spritzer.
He also likes to go on vacation elsewhere.
But the Oktoberfest, "that's my main holiday," according to the Austrian Oktoberfest legend.
Apart from this "behavioural abnormality", as Mayerhofer puts it with a wink, he is a completely normal person.
Married, craftsman by trade, two children.
But in September we go to the meadows for a little more than two weeks - if they are not canceled because of Corona.

Oktoberfest legend Schurli: the daily Oktoberfest
During the Wiesn, Schurli says every single day: Put on lederhosen, visit the marquee, meet friends.
He knows everyone there, from the waiter to the guest - and everyone knows Schurli.
However, he does not want to talk about money, according to the
Sat.1
report.

At the Wiesn, he particularly appreciates that everyone celebrates together - rich and poor, smart and stupid, the general director next to the unskilled worker.
"Everyone is together, celebrating, and there is peace," says Schurli.
When asked when he no longer goes to the Wiesn, he finally has a clear answer: "Either I'm never or the Wiesn is never."
