"On a night train", "at the office", "in a nightclub"... Ask around you where your loved ones met their other half and everyone will be able to answer precisely.
The answers - not all of them, you always meet at work - have of course evolved over time, and dances have been replaced by dating sites, an answer that has become frequent, and now accepted without (too much) judgment, even if the resulting romantic encounters are often more ephemeral.
