Despite 53 years of difference, a couple: the former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and his girlfriend Marta Fascina.

Silvio Berlusconi appears in the parliamentary elections in Italy with his much younger partner Marta Fascina.

This is considered politically conservative - and has the style of an American music star.

Munich/Rome – Silvio Berlusconi hasn't finished yet.

The now 85-year-old politician wants to become Senate President of a center-right alliance after the parliamentary elections in Italy (September 25).

That would make him deputy to the Italian President - and once again very close to political power in Rome.

When he voted in Milan, Lombardy, Berlusconi had his partner Marta Fascina with him.

She is 53 years younger than the former prime minister and perhaps his biggest fan.

The two have been a couple since 2020, and in March 2022 they said yes at a “symbolic wedding” near Monza in Lombardy.

But: who is the woman at the side of the controversial billionaire?

It was not a civil or church wedding, it was said at the time from the environment of the politician, who is still chairman of the right-wing conservative Forza Italia.

The party to which the 32-year-old Fascina also belongs.

And for whom the southern Italian has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies, the larger of the two chambers in the Italian political system, since the 2018 parliamentary elections.

For Forza Italia, Fascina, who hails from the small coastal town of Melito di Porto Salvo in Calabria, on the extreme southern tip of the Italian peninsula, takes conservative stances.

So she cheerfully shares against the political left on Instagram, where she has almost 23,000 followers.

And she celebrates her partner Berlusconi frenetically on social media, whom she repeatedly calls "leader" in the posts - i.e. "leader".

Fascina thus symbolizes the populism surrounding the billionaire, who is involved in a number of political affairs.

And twice divorced.

She vehemently defends him against attacks from other political camps.

For example, against allegations of alleged bribe payments or possible conflicts of interest.

For example, she claimed in a post from July 2020 that “not only was Silvio Berlusconi personally harmed, but also the rule of law, the republican constitution, and democracy.” At the time, she demanded: “Compensate our president.”

Striking: At that time, Berlusconi had long since ceased to hold the office of prime minister (last since 2011).

In another post, she called the possible right-wing alliance of Giorgia Meloni's Fratelli, Matteo Salvini's Lega and Forza Italia Berlusconi "moderate" and accused the left of "mismanagement".

While Fascina, who studied literature in Rome, also shares her love for dogs on Instagram, she does not shy away from polarizing topics and theses.

It is in this light that one must see, for example, a post on the Istrian-Dalmatian exodus of hundreds of thousands of Italians in 1947 after World War II from later Yugoslav and now Croatian Adriatic areas.

"So that the collective memory of one of the darkest pages in the history of Italy is always alive," she wrote, and accused "a certain intellectual and political left" of an alleged "veil of indifference" and "denial" of the events.

Politically, she continues to stand for a pro-European course and the strengthening of the Lombard, especially the regional Milanese economy.

Political commentators like to compare the young woman to the American singer Lady Gaga in a tabloid way because of her blonde hair, her sometimes heavily made-up face and her striking look.

On Sunday she also applied again for a place in the Chamber of Deputies.
