Uganda today recorded four new cases of Ebola virus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 15.

The Xinhua news agency quoted the Ugandan Ministry of Health as saying that "the number of deaths from the virus has reached 19 since the country announced the outbreak of the epidemic on September 20."

Uganda has declared an Ebola outbreak five times over the past two decades, with most infections concentrated in the western regions near the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
