Thousands of people were without electricity and running water on Sunday in central Japan after typhoon Talas left two dead and one missing.
The two people who died are a resident of Kakegawa, Shizuoka Prefecture, whose home was swept away by a landslide, and a resident of the nearby city of Fukuroi whose vehicle was submerged, according to a rescue official.
A third person remains missing after his car fell into a hole in the middle of the road in Kawanehoncho, also in Shizuoka province, the official told AFP.

Typhoon Talas was downgraded to depression status on Saturday after rolling along the Pacific coast of Japan and causing heavy rains.
More than 120,000 homes were without power on Saturday and 2,910 of them were still on Sunday in Shizuoka and Chibu prefectures, according to Chubu Electric Power.
Around 55,000 homes were also without running water on Sunday in Shizuoka Prefecture, according to local authorities.
Japan is hit by about twenty typhoons each year, between summer and autumn.
Last week, four people were killed and 147 injured when typhoon Nanmadol hit the southwest of the archipelago.
