Italian voters began casting their votes this morning to choose a new parliament, amid expectations that the far-right would win.
According to Agence France-Presse, early opinion polls expect the neo-fascist Brothers of Italy party to win about a quarter of the votes, and its leader, Georgia Meloni, 45, to head a coalition government in which the far right will dominate at the expense of the traditional right.
Experts pointed out that the elections may involve surprises, especially in the south of the country, and that the "Five Star Movement" opposition to the institutions of government, which is attributed to the establishment of a minimum wage for the poorest, and the Left Democratic Party, which has a strong local base, is at the forefront of the results.
