Two years after its predecessor had to be closed due to flood damage, the new Heissenbrücke over the Leitzach in Fischbachau is finished.

Hikers also benefit from it.

Fischbachau

– Only the locals and the loyal readers of our newspaper know their name: the Heissenbrücke is not necessarily one of the most important traffic structures in the Leitzachtal.

And yet not only the farmers cultivating the adjacent meadows, but also many walkers and hikers have sorely missed it since it had to be closed in 2020 due to flood damage.

The joy of representatives of the municipality of Fischbachau, the municipal council as well as the water management office and the executing construction company was all the greater when the newly built bridge could be released for use.

Planning time-consuming, two tenders necessary

As reported, the Leitzach had first undermined the Heissenbrücke and then completely washed it away.

After a time-consuming planning phase, the tender for the work only resulted in a significantly overpriced offer.

But it worked on the second attempt, and in spring 2022 the excavators rolled on.

After another price increase, the Heissenbrücke with a metal substructure and a concrete road should ultimately cost a good 385,000 euros.

This also includes the access ramps and the bank reinforcement, which was also renewed.

It is intended to prevent the Leitzach from shaking the bridge again the next time it floods.

The fact that the new transport connection also offers added value for tourism is due to the premium hiking trail, which crosses the Leitzach at this point.

In the past two years, hikers had to accept a not inconsiderable detour.

Now they can save themselves this again - thanks to the new Heissenbrücke.
