The holiday season, which is around the corner, can be a stressful time for many single men and women;

The family meals bring with them poignant questions about the status of the love life.

'Single shaming' is a concept that describes the feeling that singles and singles experience when they feel overly judgmental from the immediate environment that is directed as a criticism of their singleness, usually through unwanted questions and advice that deal with the marital life they do not have.

Ahead of Rosh Hashanah, Bumble, the app where women make the first move, conducted a survey in collaboration with iPanel among 500 single men and women across the country to understand how people feel about dating these days, and reveals an unfortunate statistic: almost 2 out of 3 (65%) Israeli single men and women have experienced 'Single shaming', and are afraid of the holiday season.

The study shows that the majority of single men and women (82%) feel that the holidays increase their awareness of the fact that they are single.

During this time, nearly 3 in 4 (73%) feel increased pressure to be in a relationship.

For more than 1 in 3 (40%) Israeli singles, the experience of 'single-shaming' makes them afraid of participating in a family meal or event.

Among women it is almost half (48%), which suggests that 'single shaming' also has a gender aspect, and is directed more towards women.

Almost 2 out of 3 (65%) Israeli singles testified that they experienced this from friends and family members - among women 72% experienced the phenomenon (compared to 57% of men).

The experience of 'single shaming' leaves most people with a feeling of discomfort (73%) and causes anxiety (64%).

Even among those who say they haven't experienced single shaming, nearly half (49%) still feel uncomfortable being asked about their love life by family.

Afraid to participate in family events.

When it comes to 'single shaming' comments, the top comments are:

comparing you negatively to other people who are not single

trying to match you up without asking and with little regard for what you want.

They tell you that you are too picky and that is why you are single.

However, not everything is negative, and the new year also brings a sense of renewal.

For 75% of singles in Israel, the new year brings optimism and hope about their love lives.

"The holiday season is a special time, but for many Israeli singles, it is accompanied by intrusive and judgmental questions about their love lives. This is especially true for women who do not even want to go to family meals or events expecting people to tell them that they are not trying hard enough, or alternatively trying to match you They have someone."

Naomi Wakeland, vice president of Bumble Europe, says, "We know that these days people are much more specific about the type of acquaintance they are looking for. In Bumble, you are given the opportunity to meet on your terms. In the app, women are always in control, choosing what is important to them and with whom and how they want to meet."

For this reason, and in time for the new year, Bumble is hosting a single-shaming-free singles event.

80 bachelors and bachelorettes will be invited to join a private chef's dinner with a performance by singer Coral Bismuth.

To win the opportunity to participate, you must download the application, fill in the details and enter the lottery.

*The study was conducted by iPanel, commissioned by Bumble through online surveys between September 8-14 with a sample of 505 in Israel aged 25-45.
