The head of the National Security Service of Kyrgyzstan Kamchebek Tashiev announced that representatives of his country and Tajikistan signed today a protocol to end the armed conflict on the common section of the border between the two countries.
Tashiev, who is also deputy prime minister, said, according to TASS: The protocol for ending the conflict was signed with the Tajik side.
He expressed his hope that the two sides would strictly abide by the conditions specified in it, adding: Peace has come today and the residents of the Lilac and Batken regions who left their homes in the past can return to it, and the authorities will help them in that.
According to the agency, the document was signed on the Tajik side by the head of the State Committee for National Security Seimomen Yatimov.
The first exchange of fire in recent months occurred on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the 14th of this month, and tension escalated between the two sides on the night of the 16th of the same month.
