Today, the People's Assembly held its first session of the seventh regular session of the third legislative session, headed by Hammouda Sabbagh, Speaker of the Assembly.

In accordance with the provisions of the Parliament's internal system related to the annual elections for the Parliament's office, and as a result of these elections, Hammouda Sabbagh won the position of Speaker of the People's Assembly.

Muhammad Akram Al-Ajlani also won the position of Vice-President of the Council, by acclamation, and Salloum Al-Salloum and Maysa Saleh won the positions of the Council’s secretaries, and Fayza Al-Athba and Muhammad Suleiman Al-Abrash the positions of the Council’s observers.

In his speech after his victory, Sabbagh expressed his thanks and gratitude for the confidence granted to him by the members of the Council by re-electing him as Chairman of the Council, stressing that the Council’s office will continue to carry out its duties with sincerity, honesty and transparency, and this requires everyone to continue intensive work in the office, permanent committees, and brotherhood and friendship committees to actively participate in the process of building The new, renewed Syria.

The Chairman of the Council expressed his confidence that the seventh regular session will be productive and effective at the legislative and oversight levels within the scope of the Council's competencies and tasks and in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, laws and the Council's internal system.

The Council also referred draft laws that included “Determining certification references in sales, lease and investment contracts conducted by administrative units,” “Amendment of some provisions of the Universities Organizing Law No. 6 of 2006,” and “Digital Signature and Information Technology Services to replace the Electronic Signature and Network Services Law No. 4 of 2006.” 2009” to the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee to discuss the permissibility of constitutional consideration and prepare the necessary reports on it.

The Council agreed to postpone the discussion of the two bills that included cutting the final account of the state’s general budget for the fiscal years 2019 and 2020 to a later session. It also referred the legislative decrees issued by the President of the Republic in implementation of the provisions of Article 113 of the Constitution to the competent committees of the Council to express their opinion and prepare the necessary reports on them.

The session was adjourned to 12 noon tomorrow, Monday.
