The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce held a press conference today (26th) to introduce recommendations for next month's "Policy Address".

They hope that the government will launch the "0+0" policy as soon as possible and resume customs clearance with other countries and the mainland, otherwise it will fall behind other competitors.

Survey: Nearly three-quarters of companies say they will reconsider their decision to leave Hong Kong if quarantine is relaxed

The chairman of the General Chamber of Commerce, Ruan Su Shaomei, expressed the hope that the government will withdraw all anti-epidemic measures as soon as possible to bring Hong Kong back into line with the rest of the world. In terms of anti-epidemic policy, although the government will continue to increase the vaccination rate of high-risk people, there will still be citizens no matter what. Due to various reasons, they have not been vaccinated, but it is impossible to continue the various current epidemic prevention measures.

She described that Hong Kong has a solid foundation, but it is constantly being judged to be weak. There are many factors, such as geopolitics, changes in the international economic structure, etc. What Hong Kong can do itself is to encourage the international business community to come to Hong Kong as soon as possible, and do more publicity, The resumption of international exhibitions and major sports and art events will show the world that Hong Kong has returned to normal.

Leung Shau Kee, president of the General Chamber of Commerce, announced the results of a survey. They interviewed nearly 400 companies in late May, with small and medium-sized enterprises and large enterprises accounting for about half.

The figures show that 86% of the companies surveyed reported that Hong Kong's travel restrictions and quarantine requirements have had a "high" or "very high" impact on their company's operations; nearly 40% of the companies have already or are planning to reduce their business in Hong Kong.

However, 73% of companies planning to leave Hong Kong said they would consider changing or re-examining their decision to leave Hong Kong if relevant restrictions and requirements were relaxed.

Liang Zhaoji pointed out that the government has been asked to re-examine the domestic epidemic prevention policy, including the number of gatherings, business hours, etc.

The General Chamber of Commerce has made recommendations on a number of policy areas, including the need for Hong Kong to complete and unconditional customs clearance as soon as possible, introduce preferential policies to retain imported and local talents, and reshape the status of a tourist destination.

Regarding land and housing issues, the General Chamber of Commerce suggests that the Steering Committee for Housing Land Supply be re-established, allow the transfer of plot ratios, and re-examine the green belt policy.

When asked about the possibility of conflicting policy logic between China Unicom and the mainland, Ruan Su Shaomei pointed out that the two are equally important: "Hong Kong's economy is actually closely related to the mainland, so connecting the world is the first step, but connecting the mainland is also a priority. It is very important. As for the competition with Singapore, as far as we understand, many talents and financial businesses have actually moved to other places, including Singapore. But we also believe that the basic competitiveness and conditions of Hong Kong are very good, as long as we connect as soon as possible Mainland and foreign countries, we are very confident in regaining Hong Kong's competitiveness."
