The residential and commercial building caught fire in May.

Weeks later, the Greek was at least able to host his beer garden.

But the innkeeper's winter plan fell through.

Wolfratshausen - A beer garden is a pretty quiet place in winter.

It's going to be particularly quiet in Farchet this year.

Iraklis Sakellariou is closing his Greek restaurant for a few months.

After the major fire a few months ago, most of his inn is unusable, and the kitchen is also affected.

"There's just no other way," says the restaurateur.

"The break hurts me, but there is no other solution."

Most recently, Sakellariou had hoped that he would be able to get through the winter and serve gyros, souvlaki and calamari despite the snow and cold.

He wanted to set up a large tent in his beer garden and keep the mobile kitchen from which he has been serving the outdoor tables for a few weeks.

"But the effort would be very, very large," says the Greek.

"Too big." It is also unclear how many people would sit in the tent despite the winter temperatures.

"It's great for us at the moment.

We had a really good summer after the fire,” says Sakellariou.

The beer garden was very busy, "it was amazing how many friends visited us and how busy it was." The landlord would like to build on that again in a few months.

Because for Sakellariou one thing is certain: "The Greek" will open again.

"It's a break, not the end," he says.

The insurance would pay him support for the time of the closure "that is enough to make it through the months".

Until the reopening, the local owner can take better care of the many craftsmen who repair the fire and extinguishing water damage in the Farcheter restaurant.

So far, only the demolition work in the apartments above the restaurant has been completed.

“The floor is missing, walls are missing.

Actually, everything is still missing,” says Anna, his wife.

The reconstruction of the upper floor is to begin soon.

And in addition to the necessary construction work, the Greek would also like to add a few new touches of color to his restaurant.

"We don't change our style," says Sakellariou.

The wood paneling will remain, but Anna Sakellariou would like to distribute "a bit of new decoration".

"It will look good when we open again," she says.

Operations will continue as normal until October 3rd.

"We hope the weather will be good - we want to get the barrels empty," he says.

Then there is a break.

Reopening planned for spring - just in time for the beer garden season, everything should fit at the Greek

Even if he enjoys his job - "I love it when people are here and there is something to do" - the break will do him good: "We can use a vacation." The past few months have been exhausting, the uncertainty, after his life's work was on fire it was a tough time.

"We do everything right again and recharge our batteries," says Sakellariou.

How long it will take is not yet clear.

"Maybe it will be March, maybe April," says the landlord.

Depending on how well the construction work is going and when spring will allow the beer garden season to start.

Then he would like to serve pita and tzatziki again - and would also like to open the tavern again.
