The National Cancer Control Program, in cooperation with Homs Governorate, charities and NGOs, organized an introductory workshop on the National Campaign for Early Detection of Breast, Cervical and Prostate Cancers before its launch in Homs Governorate, at Sami Al-Droubi Hall in the city’s cultural center.
The head of the National Committee for Cancer Control, Dr. Arwa Al-Azma, indicated in a speech that the aim of the workshop is to form a unified working team to make the campaign a success and to take the necessary preparations to achieve the desired goal of early detection of breast, cervical and prostate cancers, indicating the campaign’s keenness to reach the countryside by running mobile units that serve as Advanced and specialized health centers to conduct examinations equipped with mammography devices, the route of which will be determined to cover the entire countryside of the governorate.
Al-Azma pointed out that the launch of the campaign will take place after securing all the requirements and ensuring the health sector's readiness to participate in terms of the pathological anatomy laboratory, public and private hospitals, imaging centers, organizing workshops for each working group according to the type of cancer, and agreeing on a unified protocol.
Al-Azma explained that the follow-up center will be allocated in the Health Directorate to communicate in an appropriate manner with suspected cases, in addition to medical follow-up centers in hospitals to follow up on suspected cases and their requirements of specialized devices and doctors.
The Governor of Homs, Engineer Namir Makhlouf, affirmed the governorate's readiness and keenness on the success of the campaign and the achievement and securing of all its requirements, calling for concerted efforts and the participation of civil society to include the campaign's services in all areas of the governorate in a way that ensures access to the largest segment of the targeted.
Last February, the National Cancer Control Committee announced the launch of an early investigation campaign for cervical, breast and prostate cancers under the slogan (Your awareness is your strength) in health centers and hospitals in various governorates. It started in Tartous Governorate, then moved to Lattakia Governorate and is currently continuing in Hama Governorate.
