The administration has published an app with which Munich residents can view urban development on eleven tours so far.

The offer is also to be expanded.

Munich - The city is constantly changing its face.

Munich residents can now see how and where exactly in a web app (discover.muenchen.de) from the planning department.

Urban planning has been shown on eleven tours with 200 stations - for example with the tour "From Giesing in die Au", where the development of the Agfa site or the stadium on Grünwalder Straße is presented.

New app for Munich: The idea came about during the pandemic when the administration had to switch to digital

As is well known, the planning department regularly presents such developments – albeit so far in the same way with magazines from the districts or with walks through them.

"But it was all very static," said City Planning Officer Elisabeth Merk (independent).

And sometimes things didn't go fast enough - given the speed at which some districts are changing, many a district booklet was still being printed when the decision to build a new building was made.

The app is now more dynamic and reactions are possible more quickly.

The idea for the app matured during the pandemic, and the planning department (like many others) was forced to create digital offers as well.

The response to various online films was very good, similar to the previous analog walks.

New app for Munich: More tours, locations and functions are planned - such as an audio guide

And just like these, the digital tours are not only offered by district, but also by topic.

Interested parties can find out about frescoes and statues in the old town, for example.

The app itself is just as dynamic as the presentation. It can be expanded to include additional tours, locations and functions.

In addition to English and German, other languages are conceivable, as well as an audio guide, a cooperation with museums and at some point perhaps the opportunity to observe the changes in a district using virtual reality.

Merk: "We not only want to show our topics in 100-page templates, but also present them to the people for whom we do it."
