The number of refugees is steadily increasing.

It is also assumed in the district that more people will soon need shelter again.

This has a direct impact on the city of Puchheim.

Puchheim – The owner of asylum accommodation in the commercial area wants to more than double the existing capacity.

Instead of the previous 160 people, almost 400 refugees are to be accommodated in the building on Siemensstrasse in the future.

This would make this accommodation one of the largest in the district - in a city whose proportion of migrants is already well above average.

In addition, there are decentralized refugees in Puchheim, around 60 Ukrainians in a central building on Lochhauser Strasse.

The mayor is alarmed

Mayor Norbert Seidl (SPD) is extremely alarmed: "This is now a magnitude that we can no longer cope with." All of these 460 people not only needed a bed, but kindergarten places, schools or support when dealing with authorities.

How is this supposed to work?

"Nobody gives me a cent for the construction of a day care center anymore," explains the head of the town hall, Seidl.

And the asylum helper circles would also have problems recruiting volunteers who are still active and can provide support.

In 2015 it was different.

FFB newsletter.)

In the course of the first wave of refugees seven years ago, the building on Siemensstrasse was converted into communal accommodation.

Half of the ground floor and the third floor serve as housing for the migrants.

The rooms were equipped with showers and dry walls.

So far everything works well, as Seidl emphasizes.

Now the second floor, where a lot of files are currently stored, is also to be prepared.

The owner makes the accommodation available to the district office as the competent authority.

Strong headwind

But before that, the building application has to be dealt with by the Puchheim city council.

This meets this Tuesday.

However, Mayor Seidl is already certain the day before that there will be strong political headwinds, as he reports when asked by the daily newspaper.

Not the first time, by the way: when it came to extending the use of the asylum accommodation until 2035, it ended with a lawsuit against the district office.

The municipality only wanted to approve the use until 2030 - and was right.

"In this case, too, we would take action if the district office replaced the municipal agreement," explains Seidl clearly.

fairer distribution

For him it is clear: the environment speaks completely against expanding the community accommodation even further.

It's mostly about the outdoors.

That is the biggest shortcoming.

"There is no playground for children or anything else." And if another 233 people came, there would certainly be many children among them.

"I'm not even allowed to accommodate a kindergarten here under building law," says Seidl.

So how does that fit together?

Seidl demands a fairer distribution from the district authority and not just relying on existing buildings.

The head of the town hall reports that there is already a very high burden of refugees and migration in times when everything is sewn on edge.

It is to be feared that the social structure will tear apart if it is further strained by a doubling of the number of refugees.

Seidl is certain: "Public acceptance of this step is no longer given."
