MOSCOW — A shooting at a school in a central Russian city on Monday left 13 dead - including seven children - and 21 wounded, according to authorities.
The attack occurred at a school in Izhevsk, a city about 596 miles (960 kilometers) east of Moscow in the Udmurtia region, according to an online statement from the Russian Investigative Committee.
The injured were 14 children and seven adults, the Committee added.

The assailant shot himself, the area's governor, Alexander Brechalov, said in a video statement.

The school, which teaches classes from first to 11th grade, was evacuated and the area was cordoned off, authorities added.
No details about the shooter or his motives were initially released.

Izhevsk, a city of 640,000 people, lies west of the Ural Mountains in central Russia.
According to the Investigative Committee, the man was wearing a T-shirt with "Nazi symbols".
