Scientists have studied how many cups of coffee are beneficial to health.

From what amount of coffee is questionable.

While for some the first coffee in the morning is purely a luxury, others have the feeling that they cannot even start the day without caffeine.

Many even drink the hot drink several times a day.

The caffeine in coffee wakes you up and has a stimulating effect.

Regular coffee consumption is also associated with a lower risk of developing chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, as well as a longer lifespan.

But how many cups of coffee a day are actually healthy?

Coffee has a positive effect on health: the quantity is decisive

Although most people only think of caffeine when they think of coffee, the hot drink contains around 1,000 different ingredients.

However, it is still unclear how these affect the body.

However, current studies indicate that it is precisely the large number of ingredients that are responsible for the life-prolonging effect.

Roasting the coffee bean produces phenylindanes, which are said to protect against neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and dementia.

However, researchers at the University of Düsseldorf have now discovered that caffeine also has a positive effect on heart health.

With a consumption of around four cups of coffee a day, the doctors observed a reduced risk of certain cardiovascular diseases.

Coffee has a positive effect on health: protective effect of caffeine

According to the scientists, this effect is due to the caffeine contained in coffee.

The researchers found that caffeine stimulates the formation of certain proteins in laboratory mice, which in turn are said to protect and even repair the heart muscle.

Although the study cannot be transferred one-to-one to the human body, the results are promising, according to the doctors.

Researchers from the University of Singapore found in a review that drinking coffee in moderation may actually have several health benefits.

Those who drink around three to five cups of coffee a day have a reduced risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular problems, type 2 diabetes, various types of cancer and Parkinson's disease.

Coffee has a positive effect on health: up to 25 cups a day

Even large amounts of coffee do not seem to have any negative effects on heart health: In a study by Queen Mary University in London, scientists found that even increased coffee consumption of up to 25 cups a day has no harmful effect on the arteries.

However, as the doctors emphasize, this is not a recommendation to consume a lot of coffee.

Coffee and especially the caffeine it contains have different effects from person to person.

For example, the health benefits of drinking coffee do not necessarily apply to other caffeinated beverages such as energy drinks.

According to the German Heart Foundation, people with high blood pressure should only enjoy coffee in moderation - so that the caffeine does not raise blood pressure.

Even those who only drink coffee occasionally must expect a higher rise in blood pressure.

According to the current state of knowledge, heart experts therefore recommend drinking a maximum of 400 milligrams of caffeine – which corresponds to about four to five cups of coffee – throughout the day.
