Today in Geneva, the Syrian Arab Republic’s discussion of its second and third combined periodic report on the implementation of its obligations related to protecting the rights of all migrant workers and members of their families before the Committee on the Protection of Migrant Workers, which began on the 22nd of this month, concluded today in Geneva.

Discussions continued over three sessions, during which the Syrian delegation provided responses to the committee's inquiry regarding the implementation of the Convention, and efforts to overcome unilateral coercive measures.

Ambassador Husam El-Din Ala, the permanent representative in Geneva, indicated that the Syrian Arab Republic attaches the issue of the return of Syrians to their country and their contribution to its reconstruction a high priority, and is working to provide objective conditions appropriate for their return in dignity and safety to their country, and their successful reintegration into it.

He added that Syria continues to work within the available capabilities to address the reasons that prompted the Syrians to leave their country, and to provide the requirements for their return, pointing out that there are challenges regarding the limited international support for national efforts, and the political conditions that some donors place on the United Nations and its specialized agencies to prevent them from Supporting the Syrian people in the field of reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure and necessary service institutions to restore the normal economic life cycle, and the continuation of the United States and the European Union to impose unilateral coercive measures that amount to an economic siege, in addition to the continued theft of resources and natural wealth in the areas occupied by the forces A foreigner, residing illegally on Syrian soil.

Ambassador Ala pointed to the importance of supporting and expanding the humanitarian activities carried out by the United Nations in Syria, to include early recovery projects aimed at providing basic services, in implementation of Security Council Resolution 2642, and to support calls for lifting unilateral coercive measures targeting the Syrian people without any legal or moral basis. It amounts to a crime against humanity.

In turn, Dr. Yasser Kalazi, representative of the Ministry of Interior in the delegation, referred to procedures related to granting entry and residence visas in Syria, and the conditions for granting them, pointing to the need to develop strategies to overcome the repercussions of the war on Syria, and unilateral coercive measures, indicating the importance of the development program for post-war Syria, and the principles that It is based on it, and its main stages that begin with relief, then recovery, recovery, and developmental sustainability.

Through video technology from Damascus, the head of the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, Eng. Samar al-Sibai, indicated that Syria has taken a set of measures related to the protection of women, child care, and the strengthening of programs and policies that protect the family, noting that there are a set of facilities related to the return of refugees, including amnesty decrees that Issued by President Bashar Al-Assad,

Which encourages return, regularizes the status of returnees, and provides them with basic documents, in addition to measures to support rural women, and prohibits child labour.
