At the end of the summer, they took the reins of the gendarmerie company of Coulommiers.
The largest in Seine-et-Marne with several specificities, the first of which is the complete renewal of its management.
Three arrivals at its head
Arrived from the Meuse, where he led the Revigny-sur-Ornain squadron, Jean-Baptiste Sauvage, 40, from the Ardennes, commands the company.
His deputy will be captain Thierry Bigot, 49, a Vendéen who has already served fifteen and a half years in Île-de-France.
His previous position was second in command of the company of Compiègne (Oise).
Finally, captain Romain Freytag, 48, will be number 3 in the system.
In the Aisne, where he is from, he was commander of the community of brigades of Soissons (Aisne).
The largest workforce
This will not be useless in the largest gendarmerie company in Seine-et-Marne, endowed, consequently, with the largest number of gendarmes with 180 soldiers.
The workforce should increase to 200 people within four years with the creation of a new gendarmerie brigade in Villeneuve-le-Comte.
“This creation will be there to respond to the increase in population in this sector, analyzes number 1. The tourist development there will generate a need for security.

Eleven times the area of Paris
The company of Coulommiers, in figures, it is 135,000 inhabitants, 97 municipalities, five intermunicipalities and three districts (Provins, Torcy and Meaux).
"But fortunately only one prosecution [Editor's note: while Seine-et-Marne has three]", sigh the officers.
With its 1,200 km2, the area of the sector represents a tenth of that of Île-de-France and eleven times that of the capital.
“The advantage we have here is that Coulommiers is really in the center of the area,” observes Jean-Baptiste Sauvage.

A unique unit in the department
All units are themselves at company headquarters.
In particular the one that is the pride of the officers, because it does not exist anywhere else in Seine-et-Marne, the territorial contact brigade.
“It was created in 2018. It is really specific to Coulommiers.
It is made up of four gendarmes.
Their mission is to be in contact with elected officials and schools.
It is also the reference unit for corporate security.

The first family protection brigade in France
Another pride of the company, its family protection brigade.
Its birth dates back to January 2019. At the time, it was the very first to have emerged in the national gendarmerie in France.
Composed of five investigators, it deals with all domestic violence and assaults, including rape and sexual assault.
It is the equivalent of the minors' brigade in the police.
Its specialization in this type of facts represents several advantages at the scale of the company, in terms of efficiency and as a relief for the local brigades.
The first Psig Saber of the department
Finally, how can we not talk about the company without mentioning its Psig Saber.
The gendarmerie's surveillance and intervention platoon is the equivalent of the BAC among the police.
As for the epithet "Saber", it designates a unit armed and trained to intervene on acts of terrorism, in addition to its other security missions.
The Psig Saber de Coulommiers was created in January 2016. At the time, it was the first in the department.
It still exists and it is made up of 24 gendarmes.
“It is in the process of being densified.
This means that, in the long term, it will only be made up of non-commissioned officers where there is still today a mixture of non-commissioned officers and deputy gendarmes, ”concludes Captain Sauvage.
