The "Long Night of the Fire Brigade" on Saturday in Penzberg attracted around 700 visitors.

According to commander Simone Abt, the Penzberg fire brigade not only wanted to recruit members with its participation in the Bavaria-wide campaign, but also to present itself and its achievements.

Penzberg - There are still people who think "that we are paid for the work," said commander Simone Abt. The volunteer fire brigades have honorary members who serve the general public without pay, "in addition to their normal job “.

Among the attractions on Saturday were firefighting demonstrations.

The visitors learned how to put out a fat fire in the fryer: Put the lid on and you're done.

It was also shown that extinguishing burning oil with water is life-threatening.

Two premieres at the Penzberg fire brigade

For the first time there was a flea market.

Organizer Günther Brunner: "We wanted to try it out." Because of the uncertain weather, the vehicle hall was used for this.

27 sellers had registered.

Despite great competition in Kochel, many visitors came to rummage through the typical hodgepodge of such markets.

The open-air cinema in the fire station also celebrated its premiere.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was shown in cooperation with the "Kino P".

Afterwards, the visitors could end the day in the "Pumpbar".

Popular duck race: 240 rubber ducks go on a journey

The duck race, which is popular with children and which, according to Adrian Leinweber, had already taken place twice as a separate event before the corona pandemic, was part of the big campaign this time.

240 numbered ducks swam down the Schwadergraben to the fire station.

The children not only enthusiastically cheered on their ducks, they also freed them when they became entangled in one of the small biotopes in the creek.

According to Leinweber, the Penzberg fire brigade itself was also a winner of the race.

She gets the income from the entry fee.

So that the duck race is also environmentally friendly, the rubber ducks were not sold for the first time, the participants only received a one-time racing license.

The ducks will be used again in the next race.

Commander Abt was "very satisfied" with attending the event. The cinema suffered from the drizzle.

A total of around 700 visitors came.

According to her, the Penzberg fire brigade has around 250 members in the association, 106 of whom are active.

Among the active are 16 women and 12 young people.

The fire department has 14 vehicles, including a turntable ladder and a TLF with 6000 liters of extinguishing water.

According to Abt, the city of Penzberg pays for a driver's license in the required class every year so that these can also be driven.

There are currently more than 100 active members of the Penzberg fire brigade

According to her, interested parties do not need to be afraid of being overwhelmed with time.

After basic training, which includes 120 hours, participation in an exercise is required once or twice a month.

"Of course you can do more," says the commander.

"The fire brigade offers a range of activities that is interesting for many".

If you want to know more about the fire brigade, you can come to the fire station on Friday, September 30th at 6 p.m. for a participatory event.
