Five medics were killed by Typhoon Noro, which hit the Philippines yesterday, accompanied by torrential rains and floods.
"The paramedics were deployed in a flooded area, and it is likely that they drowned in a flooded river," Lieutenant Colonel Romualdo Andres, the police chief of San Miguel district, near the capital, Manila, was quoted by AFP as saying.
Hurricane Noro hit the densely populated island of Luzon, and was accompanied by strong winds of 195 kilometers and heavy rain.
And the authorities evacuated about 75,000 people before the typhoon, after the meteorological department warned of the risks of major floods in areas of the country prone to such phenomena.
