The leader of the far-right "Brothers of Italy" party, 45-year-old Giorgia Maloney, who is expected to be the next prime minister of Italy, published a video on the eve of the elections with a sexual allusion to her "melons".

In a video she posted on TikTok on the day of the parliamentary elections on Sunday, the politician joked about her name while holding a pair of large melons to her chest and told the camera: "September 25. I said everything."

The video became her most viewed ever with over 6 million views and over 256 thousand likes.

Some commenters congratulated her and wished her well, while others expressed despair that a far-right politician would soon lead Italy - for the first time since Benito Mussolini in World War II

One of the commenters wrote: "This is why she won" and another stated: "I'm Portuguese and even I'm sad and worried: good luck to all sane Italians."

The two responses that received the most likes referred to the option of liberal Italians fleeing to Switzerland.

On Twitter, one of Maloney's fellow party members joined in on the pun, posting a graphic with two Os in the word "Voto" replaced by pictures of Melonees.

The Brotherhood of Italy party was created in 2012 but has its roots in the Italian neo-fascist movement that emerged after the death of Mussolini in 1945.

After several incarnations, Maloney left Silvio Berlusconi's PdL party to launch "Brothers of Italy" - the first words of the Italian national anthem.

The party has gone from strength to strength since then and is now bigger than the populist party Lega, thanks to its anti-immigration and anti-EU platform.

Italy is a major destination for migrants who cross the Mediterranean Sea by boat.

In terms of policy, the Brotherhood of Italy is described as "neo-fascist" or post-fascist. Its platform is reminiscent of the nationalist stance prevalent during the fascist era. However, according to Maloney, it has managed to remove some fascist elements from the ship, saying this summer that the Italian right "brought back fascism to the pages of history".

However, the party is socially conservative, opposes same-sex marriage and promotes "traditional" family values.

Maloney even said in 2019 that her mission is to protect "God, motherland and family".
