The spiritual leader of the former Muslim Brotherhood movement became famous mainly thanks to his sermons on the Qatari "Al-Jazeera" network.

The spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, died today (Monday) at the age of 96. Qaradawi is remembered as the one who authorized the terrorist organizations' suicide attacks.

Sheikh Al-Qardawi was born in Egypt in 1926 and lived for many years in Qatar after he was exiled there following the persecution of the authorities.

Al-Qardawi became famous mainly for his sermons on the Qatari "Al-Jazeera" network in which he lectured on Islamic matters.

The program was watched by tens of millions of Sunni Muslims around the world.

Karadwi was born in a village in northern Egypt and was sent to study religion.

In his youth he was influenced by the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan al-Banna.

At the age of 18, he began studying at "Al-Azhar" - perhaps the most prestigious academic institution in the Sunni Muslim world.

In those years he began to engage in political activity and was arrested for the first time in 1949. Since then he was arrested several times until he moved to Qatar in 1961.

In the small principality in the Persian Gulf, he founded a faculty of Islamic studies and enjoyed closeness to the Al-Thani ruling family.

The sheikh did not only legalize the suicide attacks and published a halachic ruling that allowed terrorist organizations to attack Jews around the world.

In the summer of 2015, Karadavi said that the authorization he gave for the alleged suicide attacks was null and void because the terrorist organizations now possess missiles and rockets that "obviate" the need for suicide attacks.
