Lebanon expects a written proposal from the American mediator on the maritime border issue with Israel by the end of the week, the office of the Lebanese president announced today (Monday).
The bureau's announcement stated that the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Elias Abu Saab met last weekend with the mediator Amos Hochstein in New York, and informed Lebanese President Michel Aoun of the details of the meeting.
A senior official at the US embassy in Lebanon told the Reuters news agency that the American mediator continued talks to reach agreements on the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon. "We continue to reduce gaps between the parties and believe that a compromise is possible," the source told the news agency.
The Lebanese Foreign Minister said in an interview with an Emirati website this weekend that his country is interested in reaching an agreement by the end of October.
Minister Abdullah Bo Habib added that he does not foresee a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
