London announced Monday, September 26 new sanctions against Russia in retaliation for the “

illegal

” annexation elections organized in four regions of Ukraine totally or partly controlled by Moscow.

"

The sanctions taken today target those behind these ballot masquerades as well as individuals who continue to support the war unleashed by Russian power

," British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said in a statement.

Among the 92 entities targeted are "

high-level Russian officials who organized the illegal elections in four regions of Ukraine, as well as

"

(Vladimir) Putin's favorite public relations agency

", details the ministry in a statement.

These include 33 individuals deployed in the regions where the elections took place, from the agency IMA Consulting, which allegedly "

organized public campaigns for these mock referendums

", in particular to "

defend their false legitimacy in Russia

Four oligarchs have also been added to the list of people under British sanctions.

They are God Nissanov and Zarakh Iliev, two leaders of real estate development groups, Iskander Makhmudov, CEO of two steel companies, and Igor Makarov, chairman of the Areti group, which operates in the gas and oil.

The UK has so far sanctioned more than 1,200 individuals and 120 entities, in retaliation for Russia's invasion of Ukraine in late February.
