A new Isar bridge creates an attractive connection between Ismaning/Fischerhäuser and the Garching research campus;

a showcase project for various reasons.

Ismaning

– In about a year, the village of Fischerhäuser (municipality of Ismaning) will also have its own train station in the Munich transport network.

Then the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Isar between Ismaning and Garching will be ready and Fischerhäuser will only be around two kilometers away from the underground station of the Garching research campus.

Mayor, Minister and District Administrator at the groundbreaking ceremony

The mayors of the neighboring municipalities of Ismaning and Garching, Alexander Greulich and Dietmar Gruchmann, celebrated a remarkable project in many respects at the groundbreaking ceremony for the bridge with District Administrator Christoph Göbel and Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter.

Ismaning puts a lot of pressure on the pace

In his speech on the future bridge, Christoph Göbel had to laugh out loud when he quoted from an earlier press release that the district office had been surprised by the speed of the project.

The involvement of the District Administrator at the groundbreaking was also proof that the district authorities were at least able to keep pace with the Ismaninger tour de force.

Money from the funding pot "Radoffensive Klimaland Bayern"

With the feasibility study and the application, the municipality of Ismaning also achieved the goal of being included in the project list "Radoffensive Klimaland Bayern".

This also meant that 80 percent of the costs, which Transport Minister Bernreiter put at 2.5 million euros, will be borne by the Free State of Bavaria.

The municipalities of Ismaning and Garching share the remaining 20 percent.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) bears some of the costs for the city of Garching

On the Garching side there is another special feature, because the Technical University of Munich (TUM) takes over the ten percent of the city.

"Of course there were opinions in our city that Garching didn't need this bridge," said Mayor Gruchmann.

For the Garching research campus, on the other hand, crossing the Isar is a significant improvement in infrastructure from the east.

And the residents of the village of Fischerhäuser then don’t have to go far to get to the Garching Forschungscampus underground station, for them the “Fischerhäuser West underground station”, as it were, which offers a significantly better connection to Munich than the bus that runs twice an hour to the Ismaninger S-Bahn station.

Ismaning's Mayor Alexander Greulich is enjoying the appointment to the fullest

Ismaning's Mayor Alexander Greulich enjoyed the appointment to the fullest, because the financially well-off municipality rarely benefits from state subsidies.

District administrator Christoph Göbel joked that "I always divide our district into poor and very poor communities".

According to this calculation, Ismaning belongs in the poor camp and will not be much poorer because of the new bridge.

Mayor Greulich assumes that the simple bridge can be completed after a year of construction without any structural measures in the river bed.

Plans were deliberately made without pillars in the Isar in order to limit the impact on the environment and the river.

After the hastily drawn up feasibility study and the brisk planning, that would round off the perfect project.

Nowadays the people of Ismaning and Garching don't fight as fast anymore

With a grin, he remarked that building a bridge between Garching and Ismaning no longer poses a risk: "It may have been a risk in the past, but there's less brawling today.

Occasionally they are supposed to flirt with each other and even get married..."
