An American bomb from World War II was successfully detonated in Berlin-Moabit, according to police reports.
At 3:08 p.m. the dud was detonated in a controlled manner, a police spokeswoman said on Monday.
The 50-kilogram bomb had to be defused on site because the detonator was damaged.
A 500 meter exclusion zone had been set up around the site.
Berlin - About 9000 people had to leave the area.
It could now take up to an hour for the restricted area to be lifted, said a police spokeswoman for dpa
