Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Monday, September 26 hailed the "
great victory
" of the Italian far right in the legislative elections won by the Brothers of Italy party of Giorgia Meloni.

Congratulation!
exclaimed Mr Morawiecki on Facebook, using emojis to emphasize that the two countries would be strong together.
The ruling Polish nationalist-populist Law and Justice (PiS) party and the Brothers of Italy are both members of the European Conservatives and Reformists group.

I am happy that a party of the ECR group takes responsibility (also) for another European nation,
” tweeted Beata Szydlo, member of the PiS and former Polish Prime Minister.
Others on the ruling right in Poland pointed to overlaps between the two parties, including an emphasis on Catholic family values.

," Deputy Agriculture Minister Janusz Kowalski said on Twitter.
Deputy Justice Minister Michal Wojcik said Meloni's victory was a "
defeat
" for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, calling the latter "a
representative of the anti-democratic forces in the EU
".
