The renovation of the town hall in Gräfelfing is progressing, but much more slowly than planned.

The administrative headquarters should not be fully usable again until the second half of 2023.

One consequence: the municipal council has to find a second alternative location for its meetings.

Gräfelfing –

As is so often the case with the renovation of old buildings, it was almost to be expected: only in the course of the work do problems arise that were previously hidden behind walls and under floors and were also not apparent in any plan.

This is the case with the Gräfelfingen town hall, which was built in 1968 according to the state of the art and high architectural standards and is currently being completely renovated.

Fire protection more complex

"The operation of the town hall during the ongoing renovation is not easy, and it also takes longer than planned," said Mayor Peter Köstler in a press conference.

And also in the building committee he informed the municipal councils about the unpleasant situation.

Accordingly, a "pollutant load" was found on the second floor.

As a result, ceilings and walls made of gypsum concrete have to be completely replaced.

Originally, a minimally invasive way of working was assumed.

However, dismantling and reassembling the lines resulted in so many breakthroughs that this approach was unsustainable.

Additional problem: when ceilings and walls are renewed, they are subject to today's fire protection requirements.

They have now become more complex overall in the course of the renovation.

Delayed until summer 2023

"Unfortunately, the work will continue into the summer of 2023," said Mayor Köstler.

This means that the municipal council will be homeless from February or March.

Because the meetings are currently taking place in the large hall of the community center, and this will also be completely renovated at the beginning of 2023.

"So a third solution is needed for the municipal council's meetings," says Köstler.

Presumably it comes down to the auditorium (break room) of the Kurt-Huber-Gymnasium, which was already intended as a meeting place.

More details will be discussed and determined in October.

Köstler does not want to block the multi-purpose hall because it is urgently needed for cultural and educational purposes.
