District Administrator Göbel assures support in taking in refugee women and men.

Mayors, however, demand a fair balance.

District – In the past few months, significantly more refugees have come to the district of Munich.

"Independent of the people from Ukraine, we have significantly higher numbers of refugees again," district administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) informed the district committee: "We have significantly more allocations again, for example from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq.

The issue of flight is not over.” He announced to the district councilors: “I am sure that we will receive more allocations and accommodation.”

In Unterschleißheim, Unterhaching, Kirchheim, Neubiberg, Unterföhring, Ottobrunn and Grünwald, the district has ordered or already built container accommodation.

Container facilities are also planned in Oberhaching and Garching.

It remains to be seen whether that will be enough: "Further container systems are not excluded," said Göbel.

"It is gratifying that the cooperation between citizens and refugees continues"

He took the opportunity to emphasize that most of the Ukrainian refugees were still finding private accommodation: "It is gratifying that the cooperation between citizens and refugees is continuing and in most cases the living space is being made available for much longer than initially thought necessary. The district now pays financial benefits to the landlords, so that normal tenancies can take shape.

Because some municipalities are more involved in accommodation and childcare, Ismaning's mayor Alexander Greulich (SPD) considers a "solidarity compensation" to be justified: "One should take a look at the services that are very different in the municipalities."

In the past, some municipalities had "already achieved an incredible amount, and we will also be challenged in the future," says Greulich.

In an earlier meeting, the Mayor of Garching, Dietmar Gruchmann (SPD), had called for the fairest possible approach to the distribution of tasks.

26 percent are school-age children and young people

Most of the refugees from Ukraine come to the district in family groups.

According to the district administration, 26 percent are school-age children and young people, and another nine percent are children under the age of six.

In view of the tight capacities in crèches, kindergartens and after-school care centers, it is difficult for towns and communities to take in the Ukrainian children who are moving into the container facilities.

"It's a challenge in terms of space and staff," said Göbel: "That's why we are approached with the desire to find solutions." It is conceivable, for example, according to Göbel, for municipalities to rent rooms in which the residents could arrange childcare themselves.

According to the district office, this can also preserve social peace on site.

There are no social rooms in the container complex itself.

The container villages are built by the district, but financed by the Free State.

However, social rooms are not included in the financing.

However, the municipalities could name another piece of land, on which the district then also orders containers and participates financially.

District Administrator Göbel pledged to support the municipalities and cities with childcare that have declared their willingness to build accommodation.

"The most important thing is that we release the municipalities," said Göbel.

The district committee unanimously authorized the district administration to work out individual solutions with the individual municipalities as to where and how rooms for homework and childcare are created.

The concepts are then presented to the building committee.

District Office thanks refugee helpers

District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) thanked the helpers for their support of the refugees accommodated in the district in the ballroom of the district office.

It has been more than seven years since numerous helper groups were founded out of “great helpfulness” after the start of the large influx of refugees in 2015, the district administration said.

"Around 900 volunteers are still active in supporting refugees." Around 50 helpers accepted the invitation from the district office and came to Mariahilfplatz last Wednesday.

"It is by no means a matter of course what the numerous members of the helper groups achieve," said District Administrator Göbel.

The challenges can only be mastered together.

As a token of thanks, all participants received flowers, jam and a compass.
