Seefeld – The driver of a small truck disregards the height information at the S-Bahn underpass in Hechendorf and is stuck with his vehicle.

Police and fire brigade are on duty for hours.

On Friday morning, it was not only the skills that were required, but also the ingenuity of the Hechendorf fire brigade.

A small truck had driven into the railway underpass in Hechendorf at around 10.30 a.m. when it wanted to turn left from Seestraße into Grundberg Street.

A vehicle height of 2.65 meters is permitted for passage and is also signposted as such.

With a vehicle height of 3.30 meters, the 45-year-old driver from Augsburg completely misjudged himself and got stuck with the body of the small truck in the steel struts of the underpass of the S-Bahn without being able to move backwards or forwards.

A first attempt by the Herrsching police to free the vehicle from the predicament by deflating the tires was unsuccessful.

First the tires are deflated, then the saw is used

The Hechendorf fire brigade was on duty with 15 emergency services for almost three hours.

First, an attempt was made to lower the small truck with weight, in order to then pull it outside with the winch.

Police officers and firefighters came together in the hold for the necessary weighting.

After the structure threatened to break due to being pulled, the human load was replaced with a water basin by the fire brigade.

Even more air was deflated from the tires and five firefighters contributed to the lowering in the driver's cab and on the hood.

However, the front of the structure remained too high, so the fire brigade had to use a saw.

Vehicle must be towed

Part of the structure in the front area was cut out so that around 1.30 p.m. the truck was free again and could be completely recovered.

At this point, the S-Bahn line, which had been closed in the meantime and served with rail replacement services, was released again.

Fortunately, there was no structural damage to the bridge, but the anti-corrosion paint was seriously damaged.

The vehicle was no longer roadworthy and was parked at the scene for towing.

Company receives an invoice for the fire service

From the police point of view, the driver only gets a warning of 40 euros - for the man's company or his boss and the insurance company, significantly higher costs will be due with the fire brigade and bridge damage.

Material damage to the bridge could not be quantified by an employee of Deutsche Bahn on site.
