The airport operating authority in Spain announced today that the heavy rains and strong winds that have ravaged the Canary Islands for days have caused the cancellation and diversion of hundreds of flights in the archipelago during the last 36 hours.
And AFP quoted the authority as saying: Most of the cancellations took place yesterday, as 540 flights to and from the archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean were canceled, and 54 other flights were diverted, while Tropical Storm Hermine was hitting the islands.
The authority expected rain to continue until the end of the week, making this month the wettest month in the country's history.
