Amman, SANA- The Ministers of Agriculture in Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon affirmed during the meetings held between them in the capital

During the two-day meetings held between them in the Jordanian capital, Amman, the Ministers of Agriculture in Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon stressed the importance of establishing a regional center for food security, promoting trade exchange, and facilitating the flow of agricultural commodities between the four countries.

The ministers agreed to put in place solid frameworks for developing technical cooperation in the plant and animal sectors and agricultural extension, exchanging competencies and building the capacity of workers, the priority of raising the level of food security, enhancing integration between countries in light of international changes and expectations of increased demand for food and high prices, and supporting the initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The United Nations “FAO” is hosting Jordan for the Regional Monitor for Food Security, to have a role in formulating policies and providing effective and urgent solutions to food security issues.

The ministers unanimously agreed on facilitating trade, developing infrastructure, encouraging investment, raising the level of coordination to confront climate change, scarcity of water resources and the spread of epidemics, exchanging information and experiences, and implementing joint regional development projects in cooperation with international and regional organizations.

The ministers also welcomed the proposal to establish partnerships to market agricultural products, support the efforts of the Jordanian Palestinian Company for Marketing Agricultural Products, move towards non-traditional crops, cooperate to draw up an agricultural calendar that reflects production quantities and dates, and lay the foundations for unifying procedures for registering fertilizers, pesticides, medicines, veterinary vaccines, improved seeds, and plant and animal production inputs. Taking into account the peculiarities of the countries.

The work of the quadripartite meeting, which included the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Muhammad Hassan Qatana, his Jordanian counterparts, Engineer Khaled Al-Hanaifat, the Iraqi Engineer Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji, and the Lebanese Dr. Abbas Al-Hajj Hassan, started yesterday in the Jordanian capital, as a continuation of the meetings held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on the 28th and 29th. from last July.
