A working group has been dealing with the history of Oberschweinbach and Günzlhofen since 2014: the so-called Chronicle Group has already published a book, and the second is to follow at the end of 2023.

Oberschweinbach – The chronicle group was founded eight years ago.

The first book, the house chronicle, was published in 2019. The second publication is currently being prepared.

Mayor Norbert Riepl founded the working group a few months after taking office.

At the time, it was not foreseeable how much time and work would go into the mammoth project.

Hartwig Lucht, he reports, thought at the time: "I can take part." Today, looking back, he says: "I didn't know what to expect."

Search, search, search

The goal was clear: to compile a chronicle of the place.

The way there consisted of "search, search, search".

Photos, documents, construction plans, family books, matriculation books - everything had to be painstakingly discovered and assigned in archives.

At the same time, citizens were asked to help collect photos and information: Hartwig Lucht and Georg Kühlmuß went from house to house, asking if there was anything left from the past and if it could be borrowed and used for scanning.

At some point everything was together, was formulated and illustrated - and then approved by Stefan Pongratz, one of the three main authors.

The material ended up with Karl-Heinz Bayer, who was responsible for the layout, and finally went to St. Ottilien for printing.

There, Lucht and Kühlmuß received praise: publishers' representatives said that one had seldom received such a good template.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular

FFB newsletter.)

The chronicle was sold at the 2019 Christmas market in Spielberg.

Lucht was on vacation at the time - a good opportunity to joke with him: members of the chronicle group wrote him a message that all copies were out of print - unfortunately, there were none left for Lucht.

Lucht thought so, at least for a moment.

"Everyone died laughing."

It is correct: The house chronicle sold well, but there are still a few copies.

The planned circulation had been increased from 300 to 400 copies.

The response from the population is positive: "Everyone told us how good the chronicle has become," reports Lucht.

The two districts

So it's time to tackle the second project: a chronicle of the two districts.

So the work started all over again.

Contacts had already been made – but then came the corona pandemic.

When it was again possible to visit the State Archives, where Lucht and Kühlmuß could rummage through books for the first work from morning to afternoon, the visit was limited to one hour, and the next appointment was only possible four weeks later.

“Hardly anything has progressed there,” recalls Lucht.

It was not until the end of 2021 that the Chronicle group regained momentum - since then a meeting has taken place once a month.

Lucht and Kühlmuss were able to spend a day with the von Lerchenfeld family, whose private archive is in Amberg, and were able to view many papers and documents.

"That was a stroke of luck for us," says Lucht.

In the second book, the "Municipal Chronicle of Oberschweinbach and Günzlhofen", everything that makes up the place is now prepared: Spielberg monastery and castle, the clubs, the parish of Günzlhofen, the churches, building and archaeological monuments as well as the mayors, important families and also legends – Keyword robber Kneißl.

The release is planned for the end of 2023.
