Dießen – Aerosol particles play a crucial role in the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Measures to reduce this virus transmission are all the more important, especially in schools.

Ventilation, mobile air cleaning devices or, ideally, a central ventilation system help to ensure interior hygiene.

The ventilation of the individual classrooms takes place via ventilation ducts.

At the end of last year, the Dießen municipal council decided in favor of the Carl Orff elementary school and the school association in favor of the COS middle school.

Roughly estimated costs at that time: 2.3 million euros gross.

But because of the complicated funding and tendering problems, the ventilation system has so far been a vain number.

Immediately after the decision, the administration submitted the funding applications of 500,000 euros each to the federal government, which were also approved by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control at the end of April 2022.

However, the commitment was linked to the condition that the construction work had to be completed by April 29, 2023.

"Completely unrealistic because of the necessary approval and EU tendering procedures," says Dießen Managing Director Karl Heinz Springer.

So an effort was made to extend the deadline.

However, with little hope, as the legal department of the authority signaled.

Since the federal funds could no longer be expected, an application for funding was submitted to the government of Upper Bavaria “for technical measures for ventilation in schools to protect against infection”.

This application was denied on August 11, 2022.

The last hope now is funding under the FAG Financial Equalization Act.

At least 23 percent of the conversion costs for the Dettenschwang kindergarten were reimbursed from this.

According to Mayor Sandra Perzul, the responsible clerk is currently unavailable, which does not exactly make further planning easier.

At a meeting of the school association at the end of August, the committee agreed not to pursue the measure of the central ventilation system due to the high costs, the significantly higher personal contribution and the sometimes tight budgetary situation.

However, Rector Michael Kramer pointed out that the parents could put pressure on them because of the expectations that had already been raised.

Ultimately, the school association decided to turn down the funding granted by the federal government if the completion deadline was not extended to autumn 2024.

In addition, the committee would like to have the planning of the central ventilation system proposed by the GBI engineering office checked again for plausibility by another office.

The school association decision was followed by the market town council at its current meeting.

However, the administration was commissioned to submit an application for FAG funds to the government of Upper Bavaria.

Until something is done about the central ventilation system, 18 mobile air cleaners will be on duty during the lessons in the COS elementary school.

The municipality set up the devices for a total price of 30,000 euros during the Christmas holidays.

Well aware that the "big solution" will drag on for a long time.
