War in Ukraine: India begins to lose patience and urges Russia to end it

On 22 September, before the UN Security Council, the Indian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, launched into a tirade of unprecedented firmness towards Russia:

"The trajectory that the Ukrainian conflict is taking is a subject of deep concern for the international community.

The nuclear issue is a particular anxiety,”

he said.

The day before, Vladimir Putin had not ruled out the use of unconventional weapons in a speech to the nation.

"Even in conflict situations, the violation of human rights or international law cannot be justified,"

pleads the diplomat.

If India has not condemned the Russian invasion, its patience is beginning to wear thin.

On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit on September 16, Prime Minister Modi told Vladimir Putin:

“Our time is not war”,

a statement repeated by Jaishankar in the General Assembly…
