The Director of Drinking Water in the Ministry of Water Resources, Engineer Muhammad Al-Hajj, confirmed that all the analyzes carried out by the water institutions in the governorates showed that the sources of drinking water in Syria are completely safe, that they are safe and conform to specifications and that there is no pollution in them.

Al-Hajj explained in a statement to SANA that the ministry focuses in its work on not pumping any drop of drinking water without adequate sterilization, and ensuring its safety and validity according to certain specifications that determine the amount of residual chlorine that must be present at the consumer, which is not less than 0.2 milligrams per liter until The last parts of the network.

Al-Hajj pointed out that the registration of a few cases of cholera patients confirms that drinking water is not the reason behind this, because it serves a large number of subscribers, indicating that the recorded individual cases used water from local sources and not from the main networks.

Al-Hajj pointed out that if any pollution is suspected, the water pumping is quickly cut off from the area, searches for sources of pollution, informing citizens and providing them with an alternative source, then treating the cause, sterilizing the network, re-pumping and taking samples from their home tanks.

Al-Hajj indicated that, since the outbreak of the epidemic, the ministry has taken a set of measures, including: asking all water institutions to fully comply with the national plan to monitor the quality and quality of drinking water, which is applied annually, emphasizing the sterilization of drinking water according to Syrian standards, and securing a reserve stock of sterilization materials for a period of no more than Less than 3 months, and intensifying control over the quality of drinking water from the water source to the end of the networks.

The Director of Drinking Water called on citizens to drink water from the main networks only, as it is the reliable source, and not to consume water from unknown, unsterilized sources. More than 181 million cubic metres, with the per capita share of water reaching about 90 liters per day.
