The Dachau jury court has to deal with a false twenties.

A 33-year-old from Schwabhausen is said to have circulated it.

Dachau – In the first half of 2022, the Bundesbank withdrew around 19,800 counterfeit euro banknotes with a face value of almost one million euros.

42 percent were 50 euro bills.

The €20 banknotes follow in second place with around 35 percent.

Prop copy money can be obtained on the Internet

In the present case, it was so-called "prop copy" money that anyone can obtain via the Internet.

Possession of this play money is not a problem, but bringing it into circulation is a punishable offence.

And if you turn the note on someone, as the 33-year-old is said to have done, and this person then gives back two real tens, there is also fraud.

According to the presiding judge Christian Calame in the main hearing, the offense of bringing counterfeit money into circulation involves a very sensitive threat of punishment, after all, it is important to protect the flow of money.

Calame then looked at the accused and let him know that the court could accept a less serious case if he confessed - after all, it's only about a single note.

33-year-old denies everything

The deep look into the eyes of the father of two was of no use.

The 33-year-old denied outright that he was in Unterweikertshofen at the time of the barter transaction.

Trading there is said to have taken place in January 2021.

The victim was the Schwabhauser's cousin (34).

In front of his apartment, the cousin stated on the witness stand, the accused put the twenties in his hand.

It was already dark.

He only noticed that something was wrong with the note the next day, when he put it on the table in a beverage store to pay for a crate of Spezi and a six-pack of beer.

The seller didn't want to accept the bill.

Back home, the cousin took a closer look at the twenties together with his fiancé (28).

"It felt thicker and was a bit smaller than real bills," the fiancee said in court.

The duo made their way to the bank, where a clerk nodded vigorously when asked, "Is it fake?" and then straight to the police station.

Investigators then searched the 33-year-old's home and found no fewer than 368 prop-copy notes – tens, twenties and hundreds;

along with some amphetamines and other intoxicating substances.

Toys for the daughter?

He bought the play money on the Wish Internet platform, on which, similar to Ebay, small companies and manufacturers sell goods directly to consumers.

It cost him 23.12 euros.

The bills were intended for his daughter, the defendant asserted.

The little one loves to play with her shop.

His daughter must have taken the twenties to the house in Unterweikertshofen at some point, he continued.

The parents of the cousin and his brother and children were also living there at the time of the crime.

You meet every now and then.

Daughter and relatives children get along splendidly, he said.

Did the money exchange actually take place?

Or did the defendant's daughter bring the note to Unterweikertshofen?

The jury promises an answer from another man who is said to have been there when the twenties are said to have changed hands.

He is scheduled to testify on October 11th.
