The police received a report earlier that a medical clinic in Mong Kok suspected of indiscriminately distributing medical exemption certificates for the new crown vaccination to the public.
The doctors of the clinics involved suspected that they did not follow relevant guidelines to issue medical exemption certificates for new crown vaccinations without consulting patients or reviewing medical records.
After in-depth investigation, officers from the Mong Kok District Crime Squad raided a medical clinic on Lai Chi Kok Road at about 9 am today (27th) and arrested a 65-year-old local man on suspicion of "making false documents".
Officers seized a batch of patient records, a computer and about $56,000 in cash in the clinic involved.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man involved had issued more than 3,196 relevant exemption certificates from February to May, with prices ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 each.
The arrested person is being detained for investigation.
The case is still under investigation and more arrests cannot be ruled out.
The police stressed that making false documents is a serious crime, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison if convicted.
In addition, any person who knows or believes that a false instrument is false and takes custody or control of the instrument without lawful authority or excuse commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for up to three years.
